Established by a decree of King Louis XIV in 1680, La Comédie Française is a state run Theatre with its own troupe of actors. The company has performed almost continuously for over 300 years, only breaking during the French Revolution. The theatre presents a traditional repertoire, drawing principally from over 3000 classic French works by playrights such as Molière and Racine.
